🏠 A FOUR YEAR PLAN TO CUT TEMPORARY ACCOMMODATION

Croydon Council has approved its Temporary Accommodation Strategy and Action Plan 2026 to 2030, aiming to reduce the number of households in temporary accommodation from 3,283 to fewer than 2,600 by 2030.

The plan also targets fewer than 1,000 households in nightly paid accommodation and around £10 million in savings between 2027 and 2030, through earlier intervention, more housing supply and improved move on arrangements.

The plan was agreed at Cabinet on 23/09/2026.

🏫 EMPTY CLASSROOMS COULD CREATE SEND PROVISION

As pupil numbers fall, Croydon is considering converting empty classrooms in mainstream secondary schools into specialist facilities for children with special educational needs and disabilities.

The proposal is part of wider planning around surplus school places and rising demand for SEND support within the borough.
