Friday is here, Croydon is buzzing, and this issue puts community pride at the centre: meet the residents helping keep our streets cleaner, then plan your weekend with outdoor cinema, rooftop sunshine and South End sounds.

Friday CTA: Share the food and drink guide

Street Champions are resident volunteers working alongside Croydon Council and its partners to encourage recycling, responsible waste management and a cleaner local environment.

They help reduce environmental crime, including littering and fly-tipping, by acting as the eyes and ears of their neighbourhoods.

🌿 Report issues such as littering and fly-tipping through the Love Clean Streets app or website.

🧤 Organise community clean-ups and litter picks, including recording before, during and after activity.

🏡 Support neighbours with keeping front gardens tidy.

♻️ Identify local businesses that may need advice about responsible waste and recycling.

🤝 Attend meetings with fellow residents and council representatives, then report activity to the Street Champions coordinator.

This is neighbour power in action, with residents helping create a borough that feels cared for, respected and ready for the future.

Street Champions do not replace council services and do not have enforcement powers; they support local action, share information and help communities work constructively with the council.

The Love Clean Streets app is Croydon’s Cleaner Croydon reporting route for fly-tipping, litter, dog mess and potholes.

The app listing says the report is sent to the relevant authority, with progress updates available through the app and email; response times and outcomes can vary.

Keep Britain Tidy and its partner organisations describe Love Clean Streets as the only app they recommend and support, according to the app’s official messaging. This is not presented as an independent Croydon Council claim.

Council reporting route: Report a problem through Love Clean Streets

A tidy street can change how a whole neighbourhood feels, from the first morning school run to the final walk home after work.

The Street Champions programme shows what happens when residents, council teams, schools, youth groups and local businesses share responsibility without blurring their roles.

You can help by reporting problems accurately, disposing of waste responsibly and backing neighbours who are already doing the graft.

That is how Croydon moves from occasional clean-ups to lasting environmental pride.
