🗳️NINE DAYS TO GO - MAYORAL RACE STILL TOO CLOSE TO CALL
The latest polling still shows fewer than 100 votes separating Jason Perry and Labour's Chris Davis. With the election on Thursday 7 May, this is shaping up to be the tightest mayoral contest in Croydon's history. Every single vote counts - make sure yours does.

🚦NOTORIOUS YELLOW BOX JUNCTION CUT IN HALF
The East Croydon yellow box junction that raked in nearly £2 million in fines - despite a tribunal ruling part of it was unlawful - has finally been scaled back. Croydon Council has reduced the size of the junction following the legal challenge. Drivers who were fined may be eligible for refunds. If you got caught, it's worth checking.

💧FIRE BRIGADE ISSUES URGENT WATER SAFETY WARNING
Following a series of recent deaths, the London Fire Brigade has launched a "Be Water Aware" campaign. Between 2021 and 2025, the Brigade attended 10 water-related incidents in Croydon alone. With warmer weather arriving, please keep this in mind near open water - rivers, lakes, and reservoirs are far more dangerous than they look.

💚 HEARTBEAT. The Human Story.
The café that just keeps growing
Grumpy Goose Café in East Croydon has been quietly building one of the most loyal followings of any independent in the borough. What started as a small neighbourhood spot has expanded its hours and menu this spring, responding to demand from regulars who clearly can't get enough. The name might suggest grumpiness - the vibe is anything but. Strong coffee, proper food, and the kind of welcome that makes you want to come back. This is exactly the sort of place that makes Croydon worth living in.
Find them near East Croydon station - worth the detour.

🧠 PERSONALITY BLOCK
Did You Know?
The David Lean Cinema is named after the legendary British film director Sir David Lean - director of Lawrence of Arabia, The Bridge on the River Kwai, and Brief Encounter. Lean was born in Croydon in 1908. The cinema bearing his name has been running for over 30 years, entirely on volunteer power. Not bad for a borough that gets written off.
🏢 ONLY IN CROYDON
could you have a yellow box junction that a tribunal ruled was partly unlawful, that raked in £2 million in fines anyway, and that only got scaled back years later. Only in Croydon. (Check if you're owed a refund.)
