🚂 Great British Railways -- Croydon First
History in the making. As Govia Thameslink hands Southern and Thameslink services back to public ownership on May 31, the very first trains in the new Great British Railways livery will run through Croydon -- East Croydon, Norwood Junction, Purley and Coulsdon are on the inaugural routes. The first GBR-branded Class 387 was unveiled in Brighton this week. Nearly 30 years of rail privatisation, ending right here on our doorstep.
⚖️ Labour Database Scandal -- Croydon in Court
Four people linked to Labour in Croydon appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court this week charged over alleged vote rigging in the Croydon East candidate selection. Joel Bodmer, Shila Bodmer, former Croydon councillor Carole Bonner, and Gabriel Leroy face charges under the Computer Misuse Act and Criminal Law Act. All four are next due at Southwark Crown Court on June 16. All have been suspended from the Labour Party.

Results are in from the Met's six-month facial recognition pilot on Croydon High Street (Oct 2025 -- Mar 2026). Static cameras made 173 arrests across 24 operations -- one every 35 minutes. Crime fell 10.5%, with violence against women and girls down 21%. The Met says the cameras are staying.
