CROYDON IS ON THE MOVE: CAN YOU FEEL THE RHYTHM?
Welcome to your Wednesday briefing, where we dive deep into the news that actually matters to the people living between Purley Way and Crystal Palace.
We’ve got schools getting the cash they deserve, a final shout-out for our local creatives, and a coffee spot that’ll change your morning commute forever.
Grab a brew, settle in, and let’s get into the heart of the matter: because if it’s happening in CR0, CR2, or beyond, it’s happening here.

🚨 LOCAL NEWS: STANDARDS MATTER IN SOUTH NORWOOD
A cautionary one for local food lovers -- AA Chicken World in South Norwood has been hit with a hygiene fine after mouse droppings were discovered on the premises.
It’s a sharp reminder that high standards matter in every corner of Croydon -- and that residents deserve clean, safe places to eat without compromise.
The bigger picture is simple: when local businesses get it right, the whole community benefits. So keep backing the cafés, takeaways, and restaurants that put hygiene, care, and pride first -- that’s how we build a stronger, healthier high street together.
🎨 CREATIVE CROYDON CLOSED: NOW WE WAIT FOR THE WOW
A big well done to every local lad and lass who got their designs in for Creative Croydon 2026.
The deadline closed on Tuesday, June 9 at 5:00 PM, and now the borough gets to look ahead to the brilliant bit -- seeing which local artists will light up the town centre next.

The Creative Croydon initiative is returning for its fifth massive year, and the energy behind it says plenty about the creative confidence bubbling across the borough.
The Prize: Three incredible winners will each bag a £750 commission.
The Fame: Their artwork will be splashed across 46 lamppost banners in the busiest parts of the town centre.
The Reach: We’re talking Lansdowne Road, North End, George Street, and the High Street -- thousands of eyes on local talent every single day.
The Moment: Entries are now in, and the spotlight turns to the judging.
Big up the entrants: W
hether you’re a professional illustrator, a student at Croydon College, or someone who sketches between shifts, getting involved is worth celebrating.
The project is a collaboration between Croydon BID, the legend-tier local blog The Croydonist, and the design wizards at 31% Wool.
There is no set theme, which is exactly what makes this one so exciting -- it’s a proper showcase of what our borough imagines, makes, and shares with pride.
Portrait format was a must, but beyond that, this was all about vision -- and Croydon’s creatives clearly showed up.

🏫 SCHOOLS WIN: NEW ADDINGTON BOOST
Major news for our families up on the hill in New Addington.
We’ve been following the RAAC (reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete) saga for months, and finally, the cavalry has arrived with the chequebook.
Castle Hill Academy and Rowdown Primary have officially secured government capital grants to transform their buildings.

The Fix: We’re talking serious infrastructure work: tackling those dodgy RAAC roof planks once and for all.
The Upgrade: It’s not just about safety; it’s about comfort: new heating systems, electrical rewiring, and roofing that actually keeps the rain out.
Why it matters: Our kids deserve to learn in environments that are safer, warmer, and fit for the future: no more "temporary" fixes.
This is a massive result for the community and follows heavy campaigning from our local MP, Natasha Irons, who has been banging the drum for better education estates since day one.
New Addington is a proud, tight-knit community, and seeing Rowdown and Castle Hill get this investment is a win for every parent who wants the best for their little ones.
It’s about time our schools looked as bright as the futures of the students inside them!

💡 DID YOU KNOW?
The Clocktower wasn't always a museum and library! When it opened in 1896, it housed the town hall, courts, and even a police station. If you look closely at the architecture, you can still see the grandeur of Victorian Croydon’s civic pride. We're standing on history every time we go for a book!

Hair Dye Fixes the Gray. It Doesn't Fix the Roots
Hair dye solves the gray you can see. It doesn't touch the reason it's happening. That's why the roots come back, the color looks painted, and the routine never ends. You're not fixing the problem — you're managing the symptom every few weeks. Particle Anti-Gray Serum works differently. It targets the root cause of graying — restoring your natural pigment gradually, from the inside out. Hair and beard. No dye, no smell, no roots giving it away. Results that look like yours because they are. Five seconds a day. Thirty-day money-back guarantee if you don't see a difference. Over a million men trust Particle.
