You Shipped an AI Feature. Your Database Felt It.

When you add AI to your app, the data profile changes overnight. Every prompt, response, and user interaction becomes a timestamped event. That's not your app's usual row count.

Vanilla Postgres handles it until it doesn't. Query times creep up. Dashboard refreshes slow down. You start reaching for a second database or a data pipeline to offload the load.

TimescaleDB extends Postgres for exactly this. It doesn't replace what's working. It makes Postgres stay fast as AI-generated data piles up.

Hypertables partition your data automatically as volume grows. Hypercore compression cuts storage 10x. Continuous aggregates keep your dashboards live without re-querying everything. No pipeline. No second database. No migration.

Same Postgres. Same SQL. Just built to handle what AI features actually generate.

THE HEARTBEAT OF CROYDON: FRIDAY MORNING UPDATE

Wake up, Croydon, it is time to feel the rhythm of our borough as we head into a scorching July weekend.

The sun is shining on our streets and the energy is rising with major news on our town centre's future.

Whether you are grabbing a coffee in South End or catching the tram at East Croydon, we have the stories you need to know today.

COLLEGE GREEN TRANSFORMATION GETS THE FINAL NOD

College Green is officially set for a massive glow-up after securing full planning permission for its multi-use public park.

This underused patch of land between Fairfield Halls and Croydon College will soon become a vibrant hub for play, relaxation, and sport.

Expect a brand-new Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA), dedicated picnic spots, and a "Young Play" zone designed to keep the little ones active.

The project is a major win for the Croydon Growth Zone, aiming to create a greener and more accessible route from the station right into the heart of town.

Consultations showed a massive 88% of you backed the plans, proving that our community is ready for more high-quality green spaces.

Check out the full vision for the park via Croydon Council's official announcement.

FAREWELL TO A LOCAL LEGEND: COUGHLANS BAKERY CLOSES

It is a sad day for pastry lovers as Coughlans Bakery announces it has ceased trading after nearly 90 years of service.

The family-run business, a staple of our high streets since 1937, has entered voluntary liquidation with immediate effect.

Managing director Sean Coughlan cited a "perfect storm" of rising business rates, increased National Insurance, and doubling fuel bills for the closure.

From the original shop on Mayday Road to branches in Addiscombe and the High Street, the loss of these 32 shops marks the end of an era.

Around 170 staff members are affected by the shutdown, leaving a huge hole in the local workforce and our morning breakfast routines.

We are sending our best to the Coughlan family and all the staff who have been part of our community for decades.

Read the full heart-breaking announcement on the Coughlans Bakery official page.

ACCESS CROYDON FACES HIGH COURT DRAMA

The Public Interest Law Centre (PILC) is taking Croydon Council to the High Court over the closure of walk-in services at Access Croydon.

Since March 2025, the council has moved to an online-only system for homelessness assistance, a move critics say is "unlawful gatekeeping."

Campaigners argue that digital exclusion is a real threat to our most vulnerable residents who cannot easily navigate complex online forms.

The hearing is set for Tuesday, 7 July, where a judge will decide if the council's decision to cut face-to-face support can be overturned.

Local groups like South Norwood Community Kitchen are calling for the restoration of "human-first" services to prevent people from falling through the cracks.
