☕ BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT: 80 STONE COFFEE ROASTERS, BREWING COMMUNITY IN CROYDON
80 Stone Coffee Roasters is a specialist Croydon roastery founded by Simone and Roberto, who met in London in 2006 and both bring deep coffee experience to the business.
Roberto grew up in his family’s coffee shop in Italy, while Simone has worked across barista training, roasting and exporting, including time in Guatemala.
Their first café opened in Fulham in 2012, followed by a second in Elephant and Castle in 2017, before the roasting production moved to Croydon for more space, better equipment and a dedicated barista training area.
Today, 80 Stone supplies fresh coffee for home brewers, cafés and wholesale partners, with barista training, La Marzocco equipment and beans available whole or ground for espresso, filter, Aeropress, French press or cold brew.
Their flagship Heavy Bag Espresso comes through a special relationship with the Cosagual Cooperative in Honduras, bringing a strong international story into a home-grown Croydon operation.
The local touch matters too: Roberto has offered Croydon Local Pulse as many spare jute coffee sacks as we need, free, for our community project. That is the kind of neighbourly support that keeps the borough moving.

🏗️ COMMUNITY INFRASTRUCTURE: WHAT CHANGES ARE PROPOSED?
Croydon Council is moving forward with a proposed updated Community Infrastructure Levy Charging Schedule. The levy requires developer contributions towards the infrastructure and community facilities needed to support growth across the borough.
The proposed changes would introduce new rates in Croydon Metropolitan Centre for residential developments, student accommodation and care homes. Across the rest of the borough, proposed new rates cover student accommodation, industrial and warehousing developments, business uses and care homes. Residential rates would also increase for developments of ten or more homes and for smaller residential schemes. Individual self-build homes would not be affected.
The proposal follows public consultation from 30/04/2025 to 11/06/2025, independent examination in 11/2025 and a hearing in 02/2026. It is due before councillors at Scrutiny on Tuesday 15/09/2026, before Cabinet on 23/09/2026 and Full Council on 21/10/2026. The schedule has not yet been finally adopted.
Save this explainer and read the council's full details before the Scrutiny meeting. Read the official council story or view the Scrutiny agenda.
