💼 OPENING SHIFT: A ROUTE INTO RETAIL WORK FOR YOUNG CROYDONIANS
Opening Shift is a new work experience programme for 18 to 24 year olds in Croydon who are not in employment, education or training.
Run by the Department for Work and Pensions with the British Retail Consortium, it offers two to four week placements at more than 40 retailers, including Tesco, M&S and John Lewis, working 16 to 35 hours a week. Participants get mentoring and a guaranteed interview, and Universal Credit continues while they take part.
It sits within a wider ambition to create 100,000 retail jobs by 2029.
Referrals are made through Jobcentres. Anyone interested should ask their work coach about Opening Shift. Source: GOV.UK

🚆 LATE NIGHT TRAINS: CHECK BEFORE YOU TRAVEL
Southern services through Croydon are subject to changes and cancellations as September ends, following overnight engineering work between East Croydon, Oxted and East Grinstead and diversions in the Sutton area.
If you are travelling late or at the weekend, check the Southern service updates page before you set out and allow extra time.
🏆 COMMUNITY CHAMPION OF THE WEEK
This week we are celebrating the volunteers behind Friends of Norbury Brook and Thames21, who gave up their Saturday to clear litter and improve the brook for wildlife in Thornton Heath.
