🗳️ THE HEARTBEAT: CROYDON BID VOTE CLOSES TOMORROW
Town centre businesses have until 5pm tomorrow, Wednesday 21/10/2026 to return their postal ballot on whether Croydon BID should continue for a fifth five-year term, covering 2027 to 2032. Ballot papers went out on Wednesday 16/09/2026, and the votes will be counted at the Town Hall on Thursday 22/10/2026.
A Business Improvement District is funded by a levy on eligible town centre businesses. To continue, Croydon BID needs a yes vote from the majority of those who vote, both by number of businesses and by total rateable value. In the last ballot in 2021, 92% of voters by number and 95% by value backed it, on a 54% turnout. Croydon BID says it invests around £1m a year in projects and services for the town centre, and council papers say it represented around 480 levy-paying businesses during its current term.
Only eligible business ratepayers get a vote, so this one is for town centre business owners rather than residents. If you run a business in the BID area and have not posted your ballot yet, tomorrow at 5pm is the deadline.

📰 NEWS AND NOTES
🎓 CALAT classes are on the move. During October, most Croydon Adult Learning and Training classes are relocating from Croydon Clocktower to Stand House in Thornton Heath, with a smaller teaching presence kept in central Croydon for courses that need a central location. The council says it is contacting all affected learners with location details, and describes the move as part of a review of the service's future. Local outlets also reported on 8 October that outsourcing the service could put 197 roles at risk. If you are enrolled, watch your inbox for your class location. Source: Croydon Council
🚋 The Daily Commute: tram closure from Saturday. From Saturday 24/10/2026 to Friday 06/11/2026, there will be no trams between East Croydon and New Addington, Elmers End or Beckenham Junction while TfL renews the track.
