🏛️ THE HEARTBEAT: YOUR SAY ON THE TOWN CENTRE'S FUTURE
Westfield's latest public consultation on "The Croydon Project" opened on 8 October, and there is a drop-in today at East Croydon station from 4pm to 6pm. According to Inside Croydon, the outline proposals cover roughly 3,000 to 4,000 new homes on the Whitgift Centre site, in towers of up to 45 storeys along Wellesley Road, plus a new green space and a 2,000-capacity open-air events area. The plans also leave room for wider uses, including a possible data centre. The full planning application is not expected until early 2027.
It lands as the Whitgift Centre empties further: TG Jones, the shop on North End that traded as WH Smith until last summer, has announced it is closing.
